Kazakhstan increases tobacco production

For the first 10 months of 2018, the production of cigars, cheroot, cigarillos, and cigarettes from tobacco or its substitutes amounted to 14.7 billion units, which is 2.6 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports citing Energyprom.kz.

In monetary terms, output of tobacco products amounted to 96.7 billion tenge, an increase of 16.7 percent year-on-year.

Almaty region accounted for as many as 99.9 percent of the production – 14.6 billion units, which is 2.5 percent more than in the same period last year.

It is worth noting that two tobacco giants work in Almaty region: Philip Morris and JTI.

Philip Morris' brand portfolio includes international and local cigarette brands such as Marlboro, Parliament, L&M, Bond Street, Lark, Muratti, Kazakhstan and Polet.

JTI also produces a wide range of cigarette brands in Kazakhstan: Glamour, Winston, LD, Mevius, Camel and Russian Style.

In January-October 2018, prices for tobacco products increased by 11.8 percent compared to the same period in 2017. In October, the price of a pack of cigarettes reached 393.13 tenge, which is 10.5 percent more than a year earlier.
