Despite the collapse of US dollar rate, the cell phone prices are still high in Iran, while the market waits for the release of seized cell phones at the customs.

"There have been promises to reduce the cell phone prices many times, but nothing happened so far, they have not been fulfilled," the Head of Iran's Union of Audio-Video Equipment and Cell Phone Sellers Ebrahim Dorosti told Trend.

He further said that over 40 companies imported cell phones for official foreign currency rate and later sold them at free market for higher prices.

"We demand the judiciary to solve the issue, since cell phone prices depend on daily currency rates,” he said.

Dorosti said the government should decide on the fate of seized cell phones at the customs and set the proper prices itself, and then distribute and sell them in valid union shops.

"A total of 600,000 cellphones have been either seized at the customs or stored at importer's warehouses. We demand immediate distribution of these cell phones," he said.
