GM Uzbekistan produced 220,667 cars in 2018, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

At the end of last year, for the first time in the history of the company, the record for monthly production of cars was broken. In December, 34,117 cars were produced, which is more than 1,000 cars per day.

Moreover, the cost of each car model was reduced by 10-16 percent, and the cost of imports by $73 million.

"We used to spend more than 50 hours for the production of one car, whereas the world figures are about 24 hours. Now, at our factory in Asaka cars are assembled in no more than 24 hours. This is due to the introduction of new production mechanisms," said Umidjon Salimov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat company (main shareholder of GM Uzbekistan) responsible for Development and Marketing.

It is noteworthy that the Uzbek car industry managed to increase car production by 50,000 for six months of last year.

"Increasing production by 50,000 cars in six months is a very difficult task. Thanks to the available resources, the automotive industry of the country was able to do it. Now we intend to engage in many areas of the automotive industry, which have not even been discussed before. For us it is now very important to be at the level of world leaders," Salimov said.
