The number of permits issued for the construction of various properties in Turkey decreased by 53.3 percent and reached 643,100 in 2018 compared to 2017, the Turkish General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre told Trend on Feb. 19.

In 2018, 101,500 permits were issued for the construction of properties, which is 36.7 percent less than in 2017.

The total area of all properties with the permits issued in 2018 reached 143.8 million square meters, which is 48.9 percent less compared to 2017.

Some 300,000 properties will be built in Turkey annually, Turkish Environment and Urban Planning Minister Murat Kurum said earlier.

“Some 30,000 properties will be built directly through the ministry, while the rest - through the private sector,” Kurum added, Trend reports referring to the Turkish media.

He added that new rules and criteria will be created for contractors who will be involved in the process.
