By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Kazakhstan produced 21,100 tons of salt in January this year, which is 14.4 percent more year-on-year, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

It is noteworthy that almost all of the salt production is concentrated in the Kyzylorda region, where the salt giant of the country, JSC Araltuz, operates.

Zhambyl region, where a new salt plant Asyl Tuz was launched last year, accounts for a small share of the output. However, the plant's capacity allows producing up to 70,000 tons of salt per year. In the future, Asyl Tuz intends to meet up to 40 percent of demand in the domestic market.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s salt imports were insignificant since local production met more than 89 percent of demand in 2018. Moreover, Kazakh salt production companies are increasing their exports: last year the increase was 15.4 percent year-on-year, up to 116,200 tons.

Araltuz processes more than 450,000 tons and supplies salt to the EEU countries. Last year, the company entered the Ukrainian market and this year it plans to increase supplies three times, as well as to enter the markets of China, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

At the same time, Asyl Tuz has already supplied about 150 tons of salt to Kyrgyzstan and is negotiating supplies to Russia and China.
