Spring field work starts in south Kazakhstan

Spring field work has begun in the Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda and Turkistan regions of Kazakhstan, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

According to preliminary data of agriculture departments of the regions' administrations, this year crops will be sown on an area of more than 22.3 million hectares, which is 290,700 hectares more than last year.

"As of April 1, crops were sown on an area of 379,300 hectares. In particular, spiked cereals were sown on an area of 196,600 hectares, oilseeds - on 52,700 hectares, perennial grasses - on 72,300 hectares, vegetables and melons and potatoes - on 57,400 hectares, and sugar beet - on 3,000 hectares," said Akpar Maulenov, Deputy Director of the Department of Production and Processing of Crop Products at the Agriculture Ministry of Kazakhstan.

He also noted that the Agriculture Ministry and regions' administrations developed and signed memorandums to diversify the acreage.

Maulenov further said that today there are 147,000 tractors, 3,900 high-performance sowing complexes, 79,400 seeders and 249,000 tillage tools in the agro-industrial complex of Kazakhstan. Their readiness for spring field work is 91, 100, 91 and 93 percent, respectively.
