Baku, Azerbaijan, April 6
By Matanat Nasibova – Trend:
The implementation of Baku White City, the largest project in Baku, is in full swing, Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov, Deputy Head of the State Committee for City Building and Architecture, told Trend.
According to him, the contours of the ambitious Baku White City project, covering an area of 221 hectares, are clearly visible from the side of Baku’s Nobel Avenue and Yusif Safarov Street.
"Serious excavation work has been carried out in this territory, which used to be considered an industrial zone, for cleaning up, redeveloping, extending communication lines and setting up the road network. This is one of Azerbaijan’s large-scale urban projects, which is being implemented as part of the decree of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on approving the "Plan of comprehensive measures for improving the environmental situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006-2010”,” Dovlatkhanov said.
He pointed out that reputable foreign organizations are involved in the implementation of the project.
“In turn, the State Committee monitors the implementation of all regulatory requirements during construction," he said.
Dovlatkhanov noted that currently, most of the old buildings located in this area have already been demolished.
"The territory of the boulevard in this part of the city is basically landscaped; advanced foreign experience was applied to this end. It is possible that the demolition of old buildings may continue in the long run, should the territory of the boulevard expand," the deputy head said.
In accordance with the project, a new White City metro station will also be built on this territory, Dovlatkhanov concluded.
