Turkmenistan aims to increase exports of fish products

Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Chary Gylydzhov presented at a government meeting a report on work to saturate the domestic market with fish products and increase fish export volumes, Trend reports citing local "Vatan" newspaper.

As reported, representatives of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) have privatized the fish enterprises in the country. At the moment, the reconstruction and modernization of their material and technical base is underway.

Moreover, three fishing vessels of the Caspian flotilla were repaired. In Ahal, Dashoguz and Mary provinces, refrigerated and freezing warehouses were either repaired or re-built to provide storage for 133 tons of fish. For the improvement of industrial fish farming in the Ahal, Mary and Lebap provinces, investment projects are being carried out on the construction of artificial reservoirs and the creation of fish incubators.

As a result, in January-April 2019, 744.6 tons of fish products were produced, which is significantly more compared to the same period of 2018, and export of canned fish in the 1Q2019 amounted to 48 tons. The Vice Prime Minister also reported about implementation of investment projects aimed at introduction of new innovative technologies in enterprises for fish products.

Within the project, the construction of a trout breeding farm with a 30 tons of annual production capacity in the Baherden district of Ahal province and water reservoirs with waterproofing from geotextile and geomembrane in the Kaka district was started. The project also aims at the construction of enterprises producing 100 tons of fish per year in the Kerki district of Lebap province and a fish processing plant in the city of Turkmenabat. In addition, a full production cycle for growing fish and manufacturing finished products is being set up in the town of Oguzkhan, Mary province. In total, ten new facilities of the fishing industry are to be built in the country.
