Uzbekistan, Hyundai to build plant with capacity of 10,000 electric vehicles per year

Serial production of cars of the South Korean company Hyundai in the Kokand free economic zone of Uzbekistan is scheduled to begin by 2023, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

Construction of a plant with a capacity of 10,000 electric vehicles per year should begin in 2021. The South Korean Hyundai, Evergreen Motors (the official distributor of KIA and Hyundai in the CIS), the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the administration of the Fergana region are participating in a project worth $300 million.

As a result of the project, 1,000 jobs will be created.

The company will also organize the assembly of trucks with carrying capacity from 1 to 50 tons, intercity and tourist buses, as well as special vehicles.

Earlier it was reported that the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Changan Automobile is showing interest in the market of Uzbekistan.
