By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

In 1Q2019 the volume of aluminum ore extraction in Kazakhstan decreased by 22.7 percent within a year, reaching 960,100 tons, Trend reports via Committee of Statistics of Kazakhstan.

Aluminium of Kazakhstan JFC is the major enterprise of the industry, as well as the only company of Kazakhstan which manufactures alumina, the raw material used to manufacture aluminum. The enterprise is a part of Eurasian Resources Group.

“In 1Q2019 Aluminum of Kazakhstan extracted 1.137 million tons of bauxite, which is 1.8 percent less than in the same period of last year,” the report said.

Furthermore, the enterprise is planning to manufacture 1.475 million tons of alumina in 2019 and 1.5 million in 2020.

Due to the decrease of aluminum ore extraction the decrease of unprocessed aluminum manufacture by annual 9.5 percent (amounts to 395.900 tons) is observed.

Some 99.4 percent of the manufacture accounts for Pavlodar region (393.5 million tons, annual -9.5 percent), where Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant is operating.

The export of alumina and other oxides and hydroxides of aluminum decreased by annual 37.3 percent in kind and by 51.7 percent in cash.

Russia is the main importer of the aluminum oxide.

The export of unprocessed aluminum in the first two months of 2019 increased by 7.8 percent in volume, but it still has decreased by 0.9 percent in value.

Italy, Turkey and Uzbekistan are the main importers of aluminum.
