The amount of container transit transport via Kazakhstan is to increase up to two million containers by 2020, said Berik Kamaliyev, the Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, Trend reports with reference to Kazinform news agency.

“Transit container transport via Kazakhstan amounted to 240,000 containers during last five months, which is 1.5 times more than in the same period of the last year. This amount is to be increased to the level of 1.24 million railway containers (no less than 18 million tons) before the end of the year,” the vice minister said.

He further stated that a number of complex measures are being implemented in order to reach this goal. Thus, the participation of Kazakh companies in cargo transport to China increases volume of transit transport.

“The capacity of Aktau port and of Kuryk multimodal transport hub is to be increased to 27 million tons of cargo a year. Last year, the transport volume via these ports increased by 6.5 million tons or by 18 percent compared to 2017,” Kamaliyev said.
