The number of registered users of Kazakhstan’s digital banking doubled during last two years and amounted to 15.6 million people, National Bank of Kazakhstan told Trend.

The process of the digitalization in Kazakhstan is observed in all spheres of economy, including financial sector.

“With expansion of usage of internet and mobile services across the country, the number of users of mobile banking also increases. Thus, 70 percent of legal persons' operations are implemented via remote services. All in all both annual volume and number of transactions via remote channel doubled,” the spokesperson of the bank said.

Furthermore, the spokesperson stated that due to the active development of remote payment services and payment infrastructure, plastic cards are more commonly used for implementing non-cash transactions across the country.

“Thus, currently 72.4 percent of transactions via plastic cards account for non-cash payments. The percentage of retail non-cash payments via plastic cards increased from 19 to 40 percent during last couple of years,” the spokesperson added.

According to the bank, there is a number of reasons behind this change including the introduction of new biometric technologies in Kazakhstan, which allow to remotely open bank accounts, implement almost all necessary payments and to issue insurance.

“Development of contactless technologies provides for safe payments not only via plastic cards, but also via phones, which drastically changes user’s experience,” the spokesperson stated.

Spokesperson also highlighted the importance of digital cooperation of banks with public authorities, which plays an important role in development.

“This cooperation has lead to a number of public services becaming remotely available,” the spokesperson added.

The spokesperson further stated that notwithstanding these positive changes, there is still 'room for improvement'.
