Turkey, Uzbekistan are expanding co-op in 27 areas

The State Railways of Turkey (TCDD) and Uzbekistan Railways signed a cooperation agreement, Trend reports via Turkish media.

Vice-president of Turkey Fuat Oktay made this announcement at a meeting of the Turkey-Uzbekistan Joint Economic Commission in Ankara. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev.

In his speech, Fuat Oktay noted that the development of the relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership and the creation of the Turkish-Uzbek high-level cooperation council will further strengthen the historical ties between Turkey and Uzbekistan.

He added that the forum also reached a number of other important agreements, including the introduction of a visa-free regime for Uzbek drivers and the cancellation of a transit document duty for them from 2020.

The meeting participants outlined steps to expand cooperation between the two countries in 27 different areas including, among others, trade, transport, energy, banking, and payments in national currencies.

Following the meeting, Protocol of the Joint Economic Commission Turkey-Uzbekistan was signed.
