Georgia exports about 75 percent of peaches via Kazbegi customs

About 8,000 tons of peaches have been exported from Georgia in January-June 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

As reported, about 75 percent (6,000 tons) of peaches were exported through Kazbegi customs checkpoint.

"About 200-220 tons of peaches go through the Kazbegi customs checkpoint every day," Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, says.

Peach harvesting in Georgia began later this year due to weather conditions. The first batch of peaches was exported in the second decade of July.

According to National Statistical Office of Georgia, peach harvest reached 27,500 tons in 2018, including 7,500 tons of nectarines. Last year, peaches worth $8,190 million were exported abroad.
