A new interstate connecting point Syrdarya has opened on the border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which will create more convenient conditions for the export of Uzbek products to the southern regions of the neighboring country, Trend reports with reference to Uzbek media.

Cargo from Syrdarya and other regions of Uzbekistan will be sent through the point to the southern regions of Kazakhstan. In addition, the transit transportation of goods accepted by Kazakhstan for the CIS countries will be provided via the railway tracks of Uzbekistan.

Head of the department of “Tashkent Regional Railway Junction” enterprise Elbek Shamsiyev stated that the opening of the international connecting point will shorten the time of cargo delivery to the destination.

In average, 20−22 freight trains per day are sent from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan and through it to the CIS countries via the interstate connecting point "Keles"; with opening of the new connecting point, Uzbekistan will also receive the same number of freight trains a day.

Until today, all cargoes sent from the Syrdarya, Jizzakh, and Samarkand regions of Uzbekistan, arrived at the Keles interstate connecting point and then were transferred to Kazakstan Railways. With the launch of the Syrdarya interstate connecting point, the way will be shortened by 110 km. The Syrdarya point will work around the clock.

The chief engineer of the Shymkent branch of the Kazakhstan Railways company Saken Amirov said through the Syrdarya interstate connecting point, Uzbekistan will export fruits, melons and building materials to Kazakhstan and import oil products.
