Some 23 million tons of fruits and vegetables will be grown in the gardens in Iran this Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi said.

Some 28-30 million tons of greens and vegetables will be grown this year, Tahmasebi added, Trend reports referring to the ministry’s website.

He noted that about 50 million tons of 122 million tons of vegetables to be grown in Iran will account for those grown in the gardens and greenhouses.

The situation in Iran's agricultural sector is better than in the industrial sector and other sectors during the period of the US sanctions, Tahmasebi said.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and expanded the list of sanctions in several stages.
