Iran's East Azerbaijan Province is anticipating the operation of Mianeh – Bostanabad – Tabriz railway, alongside improvement in other sectors.

East Azerbaijan Province Governor Mohammadreza Pour-Mohammadi discussed the ongoing railway project in an interview with Trend.

"The most important project in the province is Mianeh – Bostanabad – Tabriz railway. The rail track from Mianeh to Bostanabad has been completed and is ready for operation, however, there were some issues that the president pointed to. They are to be fixed before the inauguration of the project," he said.

"The Mianeh – Bostanabad railway will be inaugurated on August 24 but the connection from Bostanabad and Tabriz has two more phases to be completed. They would be inaugurated by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 21 ,2019) or early new year (starts March 21,2020)," he said.

Pour-Mohammadi added that the project has progressed by 82 percent, and is in serious need for financing.

The governor also said that during Rouhani's visit to the province, issues regarding supply of gas to power plants were discussed.

"We have asked the president to help us with the water transfer from Zab River and we are certain about the revival of Lake Urmia in the upcoming years," he noted.
