In 2021, modern intensive orchards will appear in 55 regions of Uzbekistan and fruit growing will grow by 10 percent, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture.

On August 15 this year, a conference was held at the Ministry of Agriculture on the topic "Analysis of the state of cooperation and prospects for the agriculture and processing industry, development of a regulatory framework for relations in Uzbekistan."

The event, organized by the Committee on Industry, Construction and Trade of the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, was attended by representatives of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and deputies.

It was reported that by 2021, 17.7 million tons of fruits and vegetables will be produced in the country, which makes an increase of 10 percent.

In 2019-2020, due to the reduction of low-profitable areas of cotton and grain, the areas for vegetables growing will expand by 32,000 hectares, gourds - by 4,600 hectares, and potatoes - by 10,700 hectares.

In these areas, due to the introduction of innovative resource-saving technologies in 2021, the volume of vegetable cultivation is planned to grow by 10 percent (10.7 million tons) compared to 2018.

Today in Uzbekistan, gardens grow on 269,000 hectares, of which only 16 percent or 44,000 hectares are intensive.

According to the president's decree “On additional measures for the deep processing of agricultural products and the further development of the food industry”, in 2019-2021, modern intensive gardens will be created on 36,000 hectares in 55 districts specialized in the cultivation of fruits and vegetables instead of ineffective gardens. For this purpose, funds in the amount of 3.574 trillion soums will be allocated.

($1 = 9061 soums on August 16)
