By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
A small hydroelectric power station, which will supply the local population with electricity, will be built near the village of Akhieli in the Arkhoti valley, Trend reports citing the Georgian Energy Development Fund.
About 3,989,580 lari will be spent on the project.
Georgian Energy Development Fund has already received the right to purchase construction and design work from the government. The project will be implemented by the international engineering company EPC.
The fund indicates that the plant will be commissioned no later than December 31, 2019. But due to the difficulties and features of the construction of the power plant, it is necessary to start work as soon as possible.
“This event needs to be held for a limited time, since the village of Akhieli is located in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Khevsureti, at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. Due to the difficult terrain and climatic conditions of this place, the work will become even more difficult when the winter season approaches. Therefore, it is necessary to start work as soon as possible so as not to delay the implementation of the project,” the Fund said.
In the 1990s, a power station was functioning in this area, which currently is inactive. Thus, the local population was deprived of uninterrupted electricity supply.
The new power station will be built and put into operation in the current calendar year in accordance with the legislation of Georgia. In the event that the work is delayed, the construction of the hydroelectric station will be postponed until 2020.
