The goal of the signed document is to decrease use of plastic bags till 20 microns and the stage by stage switch to alternative types of packaging, which are safe for the environment.

Within the framework of the signed memorandum Atameken is taking the responsibility to raise awareness of the issues of stage by stage reduction of plastic bags. At the same time, the parties agreed to work together on the issue of promoting the development of manufacturing of biodegradable organic packaging.

The public monitoring of the implementation of the signed document will be carried out by the association. The ministry will develop a consolidated position on the volume of the utilization tax for manufacturers of plastic packaging.

Furthermore, some 11.2 percent of the solid household waste arriving at landfills account for various plastic, including plastic bags.

Introduction of complete prohibition on sale of plastic bags is planned starting from 2025. In addition, as international experience has shown, the introduction of fees for using plastic bags decreases bags consumption by 30 percent.
