The budget of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia will increase in 2020, said Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Maya Tskitishvili, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

Most of the budget still falls on road infrastructure, she added.

“Our budget for 2019 was unprecedentedly high, but in 2020, it will increase by 70 million lari according to the news, so we will be able to finance even more projects. The main part of the budget still falls on the road infrastructure, reflecting the needs of the population, and it includes construction of international roads necessary for the economic development of the country”, she said.

Speaking about current and planned projects, Tskitishvili noted: “Works on the Rikoti Pass section, as well as on the Kvesheti-Kobi road section and other international highways, are in an active phase. In 2020, we will be able to open a bypass road in Kutaisi and a bypass part of the Samtredia-Grigoleti road section. We also plan to rehabilitate and repair another 600 sites and roads.”

According to the minister, development of education infrastructure is another priority.

“In this field, the budget will double in 2020. About 150 million lari will be spent on the construction of over 50 new public schools, the full rehabilitation of 19 public schools, and the construction and reconstruction of over 70 schools," she said.

"Apart from that, Georgian municipalities received 40 million lari, which allowed them to carry out small repairs in over 600 schools, and this process will continue over the next year. In addition, over 50 kindergartens will be built in 2020,” added Tskitishvili.
