Kazakh Samruk-Kazyna JSC is planning to acquire 50 percent stake in Ekibastuz-2 Power Station JSC from Russia’s Inter RAO PJSC, Head of Asset Management Directorate of Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna Almassadam Satkaliyev said, Trend reports with reference to Kazakh media.

“We are well prepared for the agreement with Inter RAO. Currently we have received permission from finance institutes, which are funding the project, and are implementing the corporate procedures,” Satkaliyev said.

He added that the deal with Inter RAO is to be finished before the end of this year.

“As soon as we are finished with the deal we will release an official statement,” he noted.

Previously, Inter RAO reported that the decision on withdrawal of the company from Ekibastuz GRES-2 was due to the intention to focus on its key market - in Russia.

After closing the transaction on sale of a share in Ekibastuz GRES-2, Inter RAO will have no assets in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A modernization program for generating equipment will be launched in Russia in the near future, and Inter RAO intends to be fully involved in it.
