Over 1,000 tons of medicinal plants produced in Iran’s province

Some 1,500 tons of medicinal plants were grown in Iran’s south-western Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province this year, head of the agricultural department in the province Ibrahim Shirani said.

The area sown with medicinal plants has been increased by 500 hectares compared to last year, Shirani added, Trend reports to IRNA.

“An area stretching 1,500 hectares has been sown with medicinal plants,” the head of the department said. “About 20 percent of the sown areas of the province account for saffron. More than 800 kilograms of saffron have been harvested this year."

Over 1.5 million tons of horticultural, livestock and fish products are annually produced in the province. The sown area of ​​the province accounts for 270,000 hectares. Some 66,000 people work in this sphere.
