Mianeh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway in Iran’s Eastern Azerbaijan province will be upgraded by allocating 14.1 trillion rials (approximately $366.6 million), said Abbas Khatibi, deputy director for railway construction issues of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company, Trend reports citing the Fars news agency.
Khatibi said that 7.5 trillion rials (about $178 million) were spent on infrastructure, 5.97 trillion rials (about $142 million) on railroads, and 670 billion rials ($15.9 million) on stations.
The deputy director added that the project total costs amount to more than 50 trillion rials (about $1.2 billion).
“The reconstruction of this railroad will save 16 million liters of fuel per year and provide 200 jobs,” Khatibi said.
The deputy director noted that with the modernization of the railway, damage from road accidents will decrease by 285 billion rials (about $6.8 million) per year, and 7 million tons of cargo will be transported.
The 203-kilometer railway will connect Iran’s northwestern areas to the center of the country, Khatibi added.
