Turkish consortium looks to acquire Kazakhstan's Almaty international airport

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov.9

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

The consortium formed by Turkish TAV Airports (of which Groupe ADP owns 46.1 percent of the capital) and VPE Capital operating in Kazakhstan and Russia, has started discussions with the owner of Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport regarding the airport’s potential acquisition, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Groupe ADP.

According to the press office, Groupe ADP has welcomed the announcement of the discussions. It is expected that the acquisition may be achieved in the upcoming weeks or months.

“The airport of Almaty, Kazakhstan's economic capital, is the biggest airport in Central Asia: it welcomed approximately six million passengers in 2018, half of which were from international routes. Kazakhstan, the biggest landlocked country in the world with 2.7 million square km, is the driver of economic growth in the region, and stands for 60 percent of Central Asia's GDP,” the report said.

It is also noted that this operation fits into Groupe ADP and TAV Airports' development strategy in Central Asia.

TAV Airports, one of the world’s leading airport operators, operates Antalya, Ankara Esenboğa, Izmir Adnan Menderes, Milas Bodrum and Gazipaşa Alanya airports in Turkey. Tbilisi and Batumi airports in Georgia, Monastir and Enfidha-Hammamet airports in Tunisia, Skopje and Ohrid airports in Macedonia, Madinah Airport in Saudi Arabia and Zagreb Airport in Croatia are also operated by TAV Airports.

Founded in 2010 by one of the most experienced teams in these markets, VPE Capital currently manages approximately $800 million in Private and Public Equity strategies.
