Export of agricultural products from Iran’s East Azerbaijan province up

The export of agricultural products from Iran’s western East Azerbaijan province increased by 48 percent from March 21 through October 22 of this Iranian year (beginning on March 21, 2019), Akbar Fathi, Director of the Agriculture Organization of the East Azerbaijan province, said.

“In total, products worth $220 million were exported during the reporting period,” Fathi added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

The director of the organization noted that the export of agricultural products from the province accounted for 4.5 percent of this amount.

Fathi added that the export value reached $33 million from September 23 through October 22, which is 65 percent more than during the period from August 23 through September 22.

Fathi said that 13 percent of the total export of non-oil products accounted for the export of non-oil products from East Azerbaijan province.

"Among the main exported products were raisin, dairy products such as cheese and sour cream, chicken, tomato paste, apple juice, onions and cabbages," the director of the organization said.

“The products were exported to 50 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, India, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates,” Fathi said.

Fathi added that 67 percent accounted for the export of agricultural products, 15 percent - livestock products, 4 percent - cereals and 14 percent – processed products.

Some 55 percent of agricultural products imported to the East Azerbaijan province accounted for cereals (wheat, maize, soybean, rice, etc.), 10 percent – fruits and vegetables (bananas, pineapples, etc.), 6 percent - livestock products (meat, etc.) and 28 percent - foodstuffs (sugar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, etc.), the director of the organization said.

“Twelve percent accounted for production of raw materials in the country, 13.2 percent – export of non-oil goods and 80 percent - foodstuffs in the agricultural sector of the East Azerbaijan province,” Fathi added.
