Iran exported 4,000 kilograms of tea to neighboring countries

In the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), so far, Iran has exported 4,000 tons of tea to neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan, Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports via IRNA.

Jahansaz noted that 28,500 tons of tea were produced in Iran in the current Iranian year.

Presently, tea is planted in area of 25,500 hectares in Iran's north, the chairman said.

The chairman of the organization said that tea harvesting continued until the end of October and 126,700 tons of tea leaves worth over 4.3 trillion rials (about $103 million) have been purchased from the tea growers.

Each kilogram of first grade tea leaves was purchased from tea growers for 36,000 rials (roughly $0.85), while the price paid for one kilogram of second grade tea leaves was 22,000 rials (roughly $0.52), Jahansaz said.

Habib Jahansaz further added that 57,200 tons of first grade and 69,500 tons of second grade tea leaves have been purchased from farmers.
