Persimmon crop yields in Azerbaijan meet forecast

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 4

By Matanat Nasibova – Trend:

The persimmon crop yields fully match the preliminary forecast as of 2019, Head of the Azerbaijani Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association Gadir Yusifov told Trend.

The head of the association said that 200,000 tons of persimmons were collected in 2019.

“Some 95 percent out of this crop volume accounted for export to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova and the Arab countries,” Yusifov said. “As of 2019, the biggest share of export accounted for Russia and Ukraine.”

“Moreover, Azerbaijan also exports dried persimmons to those markets,” the head of the association said. “The enterprises for the production of semi-dried and dried persimmons have been established in several districts of the country. The process of creating small enterprises will cover most Azerbaijani districts."

“The production volume of persimmons is planned to be increased in 2020,” Yusifov said. “Furthermore, the production volume of dried and semi-dried persimmons is planned to be increased as a result of opening new enterprises for the processing of these products.”

“Presently, such enterprises operate in Goychay, Balakan, Aghjabadi districts and Ganja city, in which persimmons are mainly grown,” the head of the association said.

The Azerbaijani Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association was established in August 2017 at the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the association are the expansion of the production of competitive products and increase in export of persimmons.
