Kazakhstan to launch more projects within 'economy  of simple things'

The number of projects implemented in Kazakhstan within the framework of ‘economy of simple things’ state program reached 993 projects worth 236 billion tenge ($622.6 million) as of Jan. 31, 2020, Trend reports with reference to the press office Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

This was noted during the first meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Import Substitution and Export Promotion chaired by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

Thus, 700 projects account for agriculture sector, 210 account for processing industry, and 83 account for agriculture goods processing. Second-tier banks are currently reviewing 295 projects worth 201 billion tenge ($530.3 million), and projects worth a total of 437 billion tenge ($1.1 billion) are to be implemented in the near future.

The volume of regulated purchases from domestic producers in the light industry increased by 58 percent in 2H2019 compared to 2H2018, and in the furniture industry by 72 percent.

“The measures taken had a positive effect on macro-indicators of industries. For example, according to the results of 2019, the volume of production in the light industry grew by 7 percent, investment in fixed assets by 18.7 percent,” the report said.

Some 362 goods with import substitution potential worth 3.9 trillion tenge ($10.3 billion) were grouped and selected in the regulated procurement by the project office.

“Currently, together with the business community, the development of over 70 import substitution projects for 198.6 billion tenge ($523.9 million) was launched,” the report said.

The largest number of projects to be implemented in Turkestan, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Karaganda, East Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions, the report said.

Following the meeting, Mamin instructed to continue active work on import substitution and export promotion.
