Number of beekeeping farms significantly up in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 7

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The number of beekeeping farms has increased up to 10,000 in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association Badraddin Hasratov told Trend.

For comparison, there were 6,000 beekeeping farms in Azerbaijan in 2018, which means a 66-percent annual growth.

"It is planned to open three more offices of the Beekeepers Association in the country's Imishli, Sabirabad and Jalilabad districts in 2020," Hasratov said.

"The main goal of the association is to completely remove low-quality honey from the market, as well as expand not only locally, but also internationally," the chairman said.

Previously, Hasratov said that in 2018, there were a little less than 400,000 bee hives in Azerbaijan, while the number grew by more than a quarter over 2019.

One of the reason for the growth of hives was the successful practical work and training conducted by the association in the country's districts.

In parallel with the growth of bee families, the volume of honey produced in Azerbaijan increased, exceeding 5,000 tons, which fully satisfies the demand in the domestic market, Hasratov had said.

The chairman added that the export of honey in 2019 wasn’t as big as in 2018 and was mainly focused on Arab countries.
