Kazakhstan’s YDD Corporation ferroalloy plant has produced over 45,000 tons of ferrosilicon over the period since the start of its operations in July 2019 through April 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development.

The ministry said that plant’s goods are currently being both sold locally in Kazakhstan and exported to countries of Europe, Southeast Asia, North and South America.

For the most part, the plant manufactures ferrosilicon, which is used in the production and alloying of steel, cast iron alloys, and the improvement of the mechanical and corrosion resistance of metals.

The ministry also noted that following the launch of the third furnace, which is planned for 3Q2020, the YDD Corporation plant is planning to increase ferrosilicon production by 180,000-200,000 tons a year.

The ministry stressed that an important factor of the plant’s operation is that the share of Kazakh content at the plant is 94 percent.

All the necessary raw material base, i.e. coal, quartzite, scale is supplied by Kazakh ventures. Long-term agreement are signed on supplies of all minerals required.
