BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 28

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

The spring field work in East Kazakhstan region will be held on territory of 1.3 million hectares this year, which is 6,800 hectares more than in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The ministry said that grain and leguminous crops, as well as oilseeds will be planted on 559,300 hectares (41 percent of the total sowing area) and on 481,000 hectares (35.1 percent), respectively. Sunflower will prevail in the share of oilseeds as its sowing area will exceed 445,000 hectares.

A great part of the sowing area (almost 292,000 hectares) was allocated for fodder crops. The potatoes will be sown on 19,000 hectares, while vegetables and melons will be sown on 16,000 hectares, which is approximately 2.5 percent of the total sowing area in the region.

Some 16,600 tractors, over 5,000 trucks, 93 sowing complexes, more than 11,000 seeders, plows and cultivators will take part in this year’s spring field work. The availability of tractors is 98 percent, the rest of the equipment is available by 100 percent. Over 2,500 large and medium farms of the region will take part in the sowing work.

Over 5.4 billion tenge ($12.5 million) were allocated from the regional budget to subsidize spring field work this year. This includes funds for seed production support worth 2.7 billion tenge ($6.2 million), funds to reduce the cost of mineral fertilizers worth 1.7 billion tenge ($3.9 million), funds to reduce cost of pesticides in the amount of 1.4 billion tenge ($3.2 million).

For additional spring field financing Kazakhstan‘s Agrarian Credit Corporation provided farmers with a preferential interest loan worth over 2.4 billion tenge ($5.5 million).

“Currently, pre-sowing tillage and moisture conservation are being carried out in the East Kazakhstan region. The spring sowing of grain crops already began in Urjar, Zaysan and Tarbagatai districts of the region,” the ministry said.
