The government of Uzbekistan will allocate 318.8 billion soum ($31.3 million) from the consolidated budget of the country to install the water-saving technologies on 44,000 hectares, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

In 2019, the technology of drip irrigation was introduced on almost 11,000 hectares of cotton areas in Uzbekistan, worth 86.2 billion soum ($8.4 million).

Also, the Ministry of Finance sent more than five million soum ($491.608) to the State Fund for Support of Entrepreneurial Activity Development to cover 10 percentage points of expenses on credit obligations attracted by producers of cotton raw materials in commercial banks for introduction of drip irrigation technology and purchase of components, the report says.

At the expense of the State Budget, the Fund for the Support of Winegrowers and Winemakers of the Agency for the Development of Viticulture and Winemaking under the Ministry of Agriculture provided a subsidy for the introduction of drip irrigation technology at grape plantations, construction of wells and pumping stations to divert water from rivers, canals and other water bodies, the report says.

"In 2019, the fund received 60 billion soum ($5.9 million) from the budget, of which 25.1 billion soum ($2.4 million) was utilized. In particular, 14 billion soum ($1.3 million) was spent on introduction of drip irrigation technology, 11.1 billion soum ($1.1 million) - on construction of wells. In 2019, new vineyards were organized on the area of 3,639 hectares, while 92 wells for water drainage and drip irrigation systems were built on 2,007 hectares," the message said.

Profit from new vineyards in three years will create basis for growth of real incomes of the population and creation of additional jobs.
