Iran reveals volume of basic products in ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10

There are more than 4.15 million tons of basic products in ports of Iran at present, Chairman of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing Tasnim news agency.

According to Rastad, 3 million tons of the basic product is in the port of Bandar Imam Khomeini, and the rest is in other ports.

Rastad added that the major part of basic products accounts for corn with 2.4 million tons. The remaining products are soybean, rice, butter, rapeseeds and so on.

The official said that at present, 25 ships unload more than 588,000 tons of basic products in Iranian ports.

"At the same time, 23 ships with a capacity of more than 1 million tons are waiting to be unloaded in ports," he said.

The chairman said that a total of 14.3 million tons of cargo have been loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports from the beginning of the current Iranian year (starting March 20, 2020) to date. This is 35 percent decrease compared to the same period last Iranian year.

According to the official, 9.7 million tons of loaded, unloaded products were non-oil products.

"As for investment, last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) contracts were signed for 11 projects in the private sector. The private sector has invested 55.2 trillion rials (about $1.31 billion) in these projects,” he said.

The official said that works on 5 contracts is nearing completion this year.

Rastad said that in total, private sector investment in Iranian ports has reached 158 trillion rials (about $3.76 billion) since last Iranian year.

“Last year, a total of 21 trillion rials (about $500 million) was spent on port infrastructure,” he said.

The chairman said that at present, 179 ships with a capacity of 13 million tons operate under the Iranian flag.
