The main products of Azerbaijan exported from January through April 2020 were tomatoes, nuts and persimmons, Head of the country’s Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association Bashir Guliyev told Trend on May 15.
According to him, since the early 2020, the largest export of fruits and vegetables accounted for Russia.
Guliyev noted that the volume of tomato exports from January through April of this year amounted to 58,985 tons, which is 40 percent more than the same period of 2019. Hazelnuts export volume made up 7,052 tons, and persimmons – 17,947 tons.
According to him, during the special quarantine regime in the country, the domestic demand for fruits and vegetables decreased, and the supply, on the contrary, increased.
Touching upon the issue of reducing the export of locally produced apples for the reporting period, Guliyev noted that in Azerbaijan there is a great demand for apples in any season.
Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association was established on September 16, 2016 to coordinate the activities of entrepreneurs engaged in growing and exporting fruit and vegetables, to expand cooperation among them, boost the total production of fruits and vegetables and increase the country’s export potential.
Currently, the Association has 60 members.
