Turkmen officials discuss COVID-19 impact on local businesses

Turkmenistan's officials have discussed the COVID-19 impact on the development of small and medium-sized businesses both inside the country and the region, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The issue was discussed during a working meeting dedicated to the impact of dangerous diseases on social and economic situation in country held on May 14, 2020.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Economics, Labor and Social Welfare, Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, as well as the State Statistics Committee and the Central Bank.

The representatives of the United Nations and its divisions, including experts from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Islamic Development Bank in Turkmenistan also participated in the meeting.

The parties discussed the global crisis caused by COVID-19, as well as its impact on the employment of citizens, macroeconomic situation, growth of GDP, inflation, fiscal and trade data.

The possible impact of this virus on social and economic situation in Central Asia was presented by UN and UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) in Turkmenistan.
