Iran reveals volume of wheat purchased from farmers

About 1.85 million tons of wheat has been purchased from farmers in Iran from April 4 to date (May 26), Director General of the Internal Procurement Department of the State Trade Company of Iran Morteza Saadati Kia told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Saadati Kia, the value of wheat purchased from farmers in 20 of 31 provinces was 46.5 trillion rials (about $1.1 billion).

Saadati Kia added that so far, 34.4 trillion rials (about $820 million) has been paid to farmers.

The official said that the most amount of wheat was purchased in Khuzestan Province - 1.12 million tons, Fars Province - 226,000 tons, Ilam Province - 167,000 tons.

Saadati Kia said that in addition, so far, 135,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in 13 provinces of Iran.

"The value of rapeseed purchased from farmers was 6.06 trillion rials (about $144 million),” he said.

According to the official, so far, 4.1 trillion rials (about $97.6 million) has been paid to the farmers.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
