BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29
By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:
The Azerbaijan Fish Farm LLC is implementing several projects aimed at developing the country's fishery industry, Chairman of the Fish Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan Zaur Salmanli told Trend.
These projects cover various regions of Azerbaijan and include the cultivation of 1,000 tons of rainbow trout, production of 850 tons of sturgeon and 10 tons of black caviar by the end of 2020, said Salmanli.
“The cultivation of sturgeon fish will be carried out both in fresh and sea water. For this purpose, a specialized farm was built in Neftchala district on the shores of the Caspian Sea,” he noted.
As part of Azerbaijan Fish Farm’s projects, in the ponds of the Yenikend sturgeon farm, along with sturgeon, carp and herbivorous fish will also be grown, Salmanli added.
The chairman emphasized that the use of closed water supply facilities in this farm will speed up fish breeding processes and increase the volume of breeding of commercial sturgeon.
Salmanli said that creation of large enterprises for the production of exporting fish and fish products (sturgeon, black caviar) has begun recently, adding that the expansion of export geography and the growth of production are envisaged at a later date.
The Fish Producers and Exporters Association was established on July 23, 2019 under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Agriculture.
