TEHRAN, Iran, June. 29

Trend:

Iran's car industry wasn't just been able to withstand the US sanctions, but also increase the car production for this year by 25 percent, compared to last year, said the head of Iran Khodro company Farshad Moghimi, Trend reports via IRNA.

Moghimi made the remark during ceremony of unveiling a new IKCO car - K132, which was designed and produced for the first time in the country by local manufacturers, without any assistance from foreign experts.

"All measures regarding the production of K132 have been carried out by domestic engineers, technicians and experts,” he said.

Moghimi added that Iran's car industry must pursue production of electric cars.

As part of the efforts to do so, he mentioned that a draft memorandum of understanding was submitted to Iran Khodro by the University of Science and Technology.

Moghimi went on to say that in the past, some cars were imported and manufactured in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) form, but now are all being manufactured by local experts.
