Iran announces volume of tea export

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19

Iran exported 575 tons of tea worth $493,700 during the first three months of current Iranian year (March 20-June 20, 2020), Spokesman for Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing IRICA.

According to Latifi, Iranian tea has been exported to 13 countries within three months.

Latifi added that 126 tons of tea worth $112,000 were exported to Kazakhstan.

The official emphasized that 237 tons of tea was exported to Iraq, 76 tons to Afghanistan and 40 tons to Germany.

Latifi noted that Iran imported 14,300 tons of tea worth $68.8 million in three months.

"Iran imported tea from 14 countries. India ranks first in tea import of Iran with $36.8 million and 8,000 tons," he said.

According to the official, Sri Lanka ranks second with $13 million and the UAE is third with $11 million in tea imports of Iran.

He added that if we look at the statistics of preceding years, it is clear that Iran imports between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of tea a year.
