Managing industrial zones: Uzbekistan learning from Turkey's experience

The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov visited Ankara-1 industrial zone in Turkey, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

During the visit, Uzbek delegation studied the best Turkish practices of industrial zone management, which consists of complex and consistent provision of zone participants with necessary engineering communications and resources, as well as creation of necessary social infrastructure for employees of enterprises participating in the industrial zone.

Thus, stable connection of each participant to gas, electricity and water supply networks, sewerage system and high-speed Internet lines is organized on the territory of Ankara-1 industrial zone, as well as construction and operation of branches of commercial banks, medical services center, post office, catering facilities and the necessary infrastructure for their maintenance.

At the end of the meeting, Uzbek delegation reached an agreement with the management of Ankara-1 on establishing bilateral cooperation with a view to introducing modern practices of managing industrial zones in the processes of improving the activity of free economic zones in Uzbekistan.

Industrial Zone Ankara-1 was established in 1978 with the assistance of the Ankara Industrial Chamber and is considered one of the most developed industrial zones in Turkey.

The zone concentrates production of rolled metal products, furniture, electrical engineering, textiles, food and chemical products, as well as agricultural enterprises and factories of the defense industry. The annual turnover is estimated at $6 billion, with exports exceeding $2 billion.
