Ministry:  Georgian Kakheti region enjoys abundant harvest of peaches and nectarines

This year, eastern part of Georgia, Kakheti region is enjoying an abundant harvest of peaches and nectarines, Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture told Trend.

"The peach harvesting season is entering the active phase in Kakheti region. Despite challenges created due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the harvesting, transporting and selling of the peaches goes on smoothly," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the refrigeration systems introduced to the farming in the last two years are the most important mean for a farmer to sell products at a stable and high price at any time of the year.

"This year, the peaches and nectarines harvesting is expected to reach 35,000 tons. It should be noted, that 20 refrigeration facilities are engaged in storing fruit. The products are sold at the local, as well as at the international export markets," the ministry said.

As the ministry noted, peach and nectarine export has reached 1,397 tons to date since the harvest started (excluding re-exports).

"The products have already been exported to four countries, including Azerbaijan, Russia and are to be exported to other countries as well," the ministry said.
