Uzbekistan increased import of coal in physical volume by 24.2 percent in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 to 298,100 tons, Trend reports citing nuz.uz news agency.
In 1H2020, Uzbekistan imported $8.7 million worth of coal, which is 21.1 percent more than in the first half of 2019.
The largest suppliers of coal to Uzbekistan were Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
The coal production in Uzbekistan decreased by 0.3 percent in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 and amounted to 1.5 million tons.
Coal mining in Uzbekistan is carried out by JSC Uzbekugol and JSC Shargunugol. The coal companies are managed by JSC Uzbekistan Railways.
Proven reserves of coal in Uzbekistan amount to about 1.9 billion tons, of which almost the entire volume belongs to lignite - 1.85 billion tons. Projected coal reserves are estimated at 4.7 billion tons.
Coal mining in Uzbekistan has decreased by three percent and made 4.05 million tons following the results of 2019 as compared to 2018 volumes.
