Uzbek plant to sell mineral fertilizers under its brand

Indorama Kokand Fertilizers and Chemicals JSC intends to sell mineral fertilizers under the Oltin brand in Uzbekistan and neighboring countries from October 2020, Trend reports with reference to nuz.uz news agency.

In addition to modernizing and introducing new technologies into existing production facilities, the project also envisages the production of new types of mineral fertilizers not previously produced in the country, such as dicalcium phosphate, potassium sulfate, and potassium nitrate. The project with a total investment value of over $80 million will be implemented in several stages over the next five years.

The plant is expected to be restarted in the first quarter of 2021 with a capacity of 350,000 tons of superphosphate and 290,000 tons of ammonized superphosphate.

Kokand Superphosphate Plant was established in 1935. The plant produced mineral fertilizers from phosphorites of the Tashkura deposit. Some 95.5 percent of the plant was acquired by Indorama Corporation in 2019.

Indorama Corporation is one of the leading chemical holdings in Asia with subsidiaries and affiliates producing a wide range of products, including fertilizers, polymers, polymeric raw materials, textiles, fibers, and medical gloves in more than 35 countries, in which more 40,000 people work.

The corporation is the biggest producer of mineral fertilizers in Sub-Saharan Africa, the biggest producer of polyolefins in West Africa and the third-biggest producer of synthetic gloves in the world. The corporation is also an integrated producer of cotton and synthetic yarn.

Singapore-based Indorama has some experience in Uzbekistan. In 2011, the Company purchased Kokand Textile Mill, having invested over $110 million over the past years in the organization of modern production on its basis.
