Georgia has already exported 1,334 tons of hazelnuts this year – twice as much as the country exported in the same period of last year, Trend reports via the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.

The major target European countries are Germany – 350 tons, Italy – 289 tons, Czechia – 110 tons, Spain – 93 tons, Poland – 66 tons, Lithuania – 44 tons.

Other European countries to which Georgia has exported hazelnuts this year are Ukraine (39 tons), Great Britain (22 tons), Austria (22 tons), Estonia (22 tons), Belarus (21 tons), Latvia (21 tons), France (20 tons), Greece (10 tons).

Georgia expects to harvest 50,000 tons of high-quality hazelnuts this year, the Georgian ministry of agriculture said.

Despite the coronavirus crisis, negotiations have been carried out with exporters and associations of hazelnut producers, as a result of which hazelnuts are still being exported, said the ministry.
