TEHRAN, Iran, Sept. 3
Trend:
The head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Hamid Zadboum said that some 84 percent of Iran`s imported items include raw materials, intermediate and capital goods, necessary for the production units, Trend reports via IRNA.
Zadboum said that last year the TPO banned imports of 1,600 items which has reached 2,400 this year.
He pointed out that there was no excessive import of goods.
“Some 84 percent of imported items were raw and capital materials, and more than 14 percent accounted for essential goods, including rice and mobile phones,” he said.
Referring to the value of import he said the value of imported items totaled over $11 billion in the first quarter of the current Iranian year (started on March 20).
"We are trying to reduce the registration of orders for goods which have similar domestic analogues, by weekly monitoring of imported goods, and gradually prohibit the import of goods that could damage domestic production," Zadboum said.
