Georgia increases export of hazelnuts

As of September 3, 2020, 1,797 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Georgia, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

In comparison, during the same period in 2019, the country exported 991 tons of hazelnuts.

In 2020, the projected volume of the hazelnut harvest in Georgia is 50,000 tons, and the projected export revenue is about $100 million. More than 30 enterprises are involved in processing the hazelnut crop. A high-quality crop is expected this year.

Despite the situation created by the coronavirus pandemic, as a result of active work with exporters and associations of hazelnut producers, the supply of Georgian hazelnuts to global markets is carried out in an orderly manner.

Georgian hazelnuts are mainly exported to the EU markets. In particular, to Germany (460 tons), Italy (423 tons), Czech Republic (154 tons), Spain (93 tons), Poland (66 tons), Lithuania (62 tons), Austria (22 tons), Estonia (22 tons ), Latvia (21 tons), France (42 tons) and Greece (10 tons).

Also, Georgian hazelnuts are exported to countries such as Russia (66 tons), Ukraine (61 tons), Mexico (25 tons), Brazil (24 tons), Great Britain (22 tons), Belarus (21 tons).
