Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture to increase export potential of agricultural products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14

By Zeyni Jafarov - Trend:

A meeting in the format of a video conference with representatives of companies producing wine and wine products was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Inam Karimov, representatives of the ministries of agriculture and economy, heads of the companies producing wine and wine products, as well as farmers.

Speaking at the meeting, Karimov noted that one of the main objectives of the ministry is to increase the export potential of agricultural products and the state supports the development of viticulture through a subsidiary mechanism.

The participants of the meeting voiced their proposals for expanding the production and processing of products under the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the pandemic, the demand for wine products in Azerbaijan and abroad is decreasing. Therefore, reserves are being created in the warehouses of wineries. Storage of wine products in warehouses doesn’t allow enterprises to purchase products in the same volume and produce wine. The participants agreed on the need to expand ties between grape producers and companies producing wine and wine products.

Following the meeting, legal entities and individuals involved in the production of wine and its products were recommended to prepare proposals on the development of this area and on ways out of the existing situation, and submit to the ministry.

In the coming days, a grape harvesting will begin in Azerbaijan. Currently, there are about 16,100 hectares of vineyards in the country, and 27,500 tons of crops have been harvested from those vineyards so far.
