Turkmenistan, Afghanistan to expand intergovernmental agreements

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a Protocol on Exchange of Instruments of Ratification of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The protocol was signed on October 8, 2020 in Afghanistan between Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan in Afghanistan Hoja Ovezov.

The protocol is intended to expand interstate and intergovernmental agreements between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

The parties have recently been actively strengthening the legal framework for bilateral cooperation. In particular, it is emphasized that at the end of September this year, a number of documents were also signed in Kabul that contribute to the further implementation of joint infrastructure projects between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Earlier, Rashid Meredov and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Mohammad Haneef Atmar discussed the promotion of joint transport and energy projects.

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding on land selection as part of the Afghan part of the TAPI gas pipeline project.

The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline (TAPI), also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Galkynysh – TAPI Pipeline Company Limited with participation of the Asian Development Bank.
