Production of silk carpets increases in Turkmenistan

The production of silk carpets in Turkmenabat Silk Production Association of Turkmenistan has increased by more than 40 percent since the beginning of this year, compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports with reference to the newspaper “Turkmenistan: Zolotoy Vek” (Turkmenistan: Golden Age).

Sine the beginning of the year, the company has produced 7 million square meters of cotton and about a quarter of a million square meters of silk fabrics, as well as over 50 tons of silk yarn.

New types of fabrics, carpets and garments have expanded the range of products of the Turkmenabat Silk Production Association.

Turkmenistan plans to produce 2,100 tons of raw silkworm cocoons in 2020.

In particular, it is planned to produce 155 tons in Ahal province, 25 tons - in Balkan province, 500 tons - in Dashoguz province, 1,010 tons - in Lebap province, 410 tons - in Mary province.

Sericulture may become one of the key sectors of the local agricultural industry and may cover the entire country except the western regions, said the report.

More than half of cocoons accounts for Lebap province.

Ashgabat silk factory and Turkmenabat Silk Production Association are among the leading silk producing enterprises in the country.
